A James 1 Scholar Journeys from the Tribal Desert Land of La Guajira to the Colombian Vice President’s Office

Dedicated to James 1 University Scholarship Winners

James 1 Pianist, Wiley Skaret, finds a painted piano in a community dwelling of Colombia’s tribal people — the Wayuu.  As Wiley takes to the bench and begins a Prelude and Fugue, young Wayuu women appear and dance what turns out to be a homage to a young Wayuu girl (James 1 actress Natalia Alarcon) who has just lost her parent in the line of duty.  The ceremony ends too quickly and the orphan finds herself seemingly alone, but is reminded by the beautiful voice of James 1 Artist, Samantha Gorman, that she is not alone.  She makes the James 1 scholarship journey from Colombia’s northeast deserts to the busy streets of Bogota, ultimately finding herself studying and working for the Colombian Vice President Office.  (And thank you, General Naranjo, for your gracious cameo.)

The Colombian National Police and Technical Investigative Corps are the tip of the spear fighting against major transnational organized crime syndicates that seek to supply each corner of the world with their vicious poison — cocaine.  But in the course of dangerous operations throughout this country, Colombia’s brave police commandos and others on the front line are dying by the hundreds each year.  The majority of these deaths are young men who leave behind families and small pensions.  But we can help.

Join us as we provide university scholarships for children of these brave heroes.
